Women born in the 60s and 70s have faced particular challenges in employment. These infographics show 2 scenarios taken from our research with women in professional occupations who were over 50 years of age. Working from childhood to the present, these show the achievements and barriers experienced throughout their lives, and the current challenges they face with obtaining employment in their senior years. Class can also affect women's access to work as factors like social capital, upbringing and education all play a part. All women in the study said they needed or wished to continue working well past pension age, but as you will see there are both broader social and structural trends as well as life transitions and ruptures that impact women's access to sustainable work.
